Send to Dispatch — Chrome extension
"Send to Dispatch" is a browser extension that sends the page you're currently viewing to the Dispatch desktop app, running locally on your own Mac.
What the extension does
- When you click the toolbar icon, the extension reads the HTML of the current tab and the page URL, and sends them as JSON to the Dispatch app. It reads nothing until you click.
- Dispatch saves the page as it appears in your browser. Articles from publications you subscribe to arrive in full when you're signed in.
- The first time, Dispatch asks you to allow the connection. After you click Allow, Dispatch gives the extension a pairing token, sent with each click so only your paired browser can deliver pages. You can also paste the token from Dispatch → Settings → Extension.
- If Dispatch isn't open, the extension opens it with a
dispatch://link and then sends the page.
Where the page goes
- Only to the Dispatch app on your own Mac, at
http://127.0.0.1(port 8971), with the pairing token in theX-Dispatch-Tokenheader. It never leaves your computer through the extension. - The extension does not send the page anywhere else. It does not collect analytics, browsing history, or data about pages you have not clicked the toolbar button on.
- It does not run on pages automatically — only on the specific page open when you click the extension's icon.
Data storage
- The pairing token is stored locally in the browser's extension storage
(
chrome.storage.local) and sent only with a click, to Dispatch on this Mac. - Saved pages are stored by Dispatch on your own Mac.
